Laser Hair Removal

The speed of laser hair removal and the degree in which the skin is cooled directly impact patient comfort, which is one of the most important factors in why we chose the LightSheer. True lasers have been shown to be more effective at permanently and quickly reducing the amount of unwanted hair faster than other devices, such as intense pulsed light machines. The laser uses a super bright light to selectively heat up a hair inside its follicle rather than the skin surrounding it. The conduction of heat from the hair to the cells surrounding it kills those cells and leaves the follicle unable to produce more hair. The only follicles that are susceptible to the heat are the ones that are actively growing hair, which is about 20% per treatment. This is why it takes 4-6 treatments to destroy 90% of the unwanted hair.
It is important to choose the right practice for your hair removal. Research your options, be sure the practice uses the same technician for each treatment and that technician has been using the laser for at least six months. You don’t want to be one of the first patients for a new technician. Also, be sure there is a physician supervising the practice; not necessarily on site, but who is involved in the practice, training and oversight of the technicians. Ask if the equipment is a true laser or intense pulsed light; you want to use either a diode or a Yag laser. And finally, ask if there is any guarantee. A practice that offers guarantees is most likely going to be sure you receive the best treatment available.
