Skin Growths and Discoloration

New in the Hudson Valley are the Lam Probe and the Cryo Probe. These simple devices can remove, without a scalpel, bleeding or pain, unsightly skin irregularities that traditionally were cut off with a blade or burned off with a hyfrecator, leaving a scar. Easily treated lesions include milia (whiteheads/small cysts,) blackheads (comedones,) fibromas (pigmented or non-pigmented epidermal growths,) broken capillaries, pimples or pustules, blood spots and skin tags that are frequently found on the neck and around the eyes. The Lam Probe works on the principle of liquids being attracted to energy which is released by the various probes. Treatments are very fast and usually quite painless. Small skin tags or blood spots disappear immediately, and hyperpigmented areas such as "liver spots" or "age spots" take only a few seconds. There is minimal discomfort for the client and the healing time is short, from a day or two for skin tags to a few weeks for larger skin abnormalities such as fibromas. Let us briefly examine what these minor skin abnormalities look like:

Fibromas

Fibromas are small growths composed of fibrous tissue that can be flat or raised, dark colored or skin colored. Skin tags are considered small fibromas, and are often attached to the skin by a thin stalk. Skin tags and fibromas are easily removed without bleeding by the Lam Probe.

Skin Tags

They appear as small growths that are skin colored or darker than the skin and may be attached to the skin by a wide base or just a little stalk. These are removed quickly with no bleeding and minimal discomfort.

Blood Spots (Hemangiomas)

Blood spots can be small to large concentrations of blood which can be flat or raised. They are commonly found on the face and neck. These vanish instantly when touched by the probe tip.

Broken Capillaries (also known as Telangiestasia)

Visible blood vessels are commonly found on the nose, checks and chin, particularly in thin, sensitive skin and those with excessive sun exposure. They can be hereditary and increased by certain foods and alcohol. Broken capillaries are very simple to remove and many of them can be treated in one session.

Hyperpigmentation

Hyper means excess and pigment refers to color, so hyperpigmentation means excess color in comparison to your normal skin. They can be light brown to black in appearance. While pigment abnormalities can occur at any age and on any part of the body, they become accelerated in aging due to abnormalities of melanin production. Sun exposure makes the lesions darker. The most common hyperpigmentation disorders for which people seek treatment are: "liver" spots more commonly called "age spots", or melasma (dark pigment formed from any hormonal changes induced during pregnancy or contraceptive pills).
