Vascular Blemishes Of The Face And Body
Vascular Blemishes, also called broken capillaries,
spider veins and telangiectasias, are dilated blood vessels of various
types, including small arteries, veins, and capillaries. They often
appear on the nose, cheeks, chins and upper body, especially in areas
exposed to the sun. They are not due to excessive alcohol consumption,
as some people think. They are mostly due to genetic predisposition and
sun damage. Vascular blemishes can be anywhere from one to hundreds of
branching red or purple blood vessels of various sizes, but can also be
just a small red dot that never goes away. There are also larger
collections of vessels that look like red moles, sometimes with small
vessels leading away from them.
At Advanced Aesthetics of New Paltz, Dr. Weinman treats these undesired
blood vessels with a non-laser device called a LamProbe. A small probe
is placed over the blood vessel or red spot, and radio waves quickly and
safely coagulate the blood in the unwanted vessel. There is no break in
the skin and typically there are only very tiny, barely noticeable scabs
which disappear in a few days. The vessels fade immediately and over the
course of the next month are reabsorbed by the body. There is no
treatment available with fewer side effects, including laser treatment,
which is why we exclusively use this method. If you have ever had laser
treatment of the vessels of your face you will be amazed at how much
gentler this treatment is.
Upon your initial consultation with Dr. Weinman, a complete medical
history will be taken and a physical examination will be completed.
Pre-treatment photographs will be taken to document your progress and
long-term improvement.
There is no risk to your normal circulation with this treatment, and
only minimal discomfort. Most clients can be treated in between 1-2
sessions, and the treatment times are usually 5-15 minutes.
After the treatment we recommend sunblock be used for the next two
weeks, but patients do not need to avoid sunlight entirely. There is no
down-time and regular activities can be resumed immediately. |
